Johnson Furniture | Commission

Commissioning a piece of furniture is a truly exciting experience. Whether you have a specific design in mind, or wish for some creative input, a commission would normally start with a visit to your home. Here we can meet each other and discuss what is required: for an original piece it is important to see the context in which the furniture will reside, and to draw inspiration from the surroundings.

Designs will then be produced using 3D computer modelling, and after feedback, any modifications made. A design can go through many iterations before we are both happy. A quote will also be produced at this stage and any implications for the design and materials discussed.

After work begins the client will be kept up to date with the progress through email and phone converations and, if desirable, workshop visits. Finally I will personally deliver and install the finished piece.

If you are interested in seeing some past commissions, and how they progressed in the workshop, then please see the example projects section above.

In the design library section you can see some speculative furniture designs I have produced and perhaps get some inspiration for a commission.

Information about the various timbers and veneer patterns mentioned throughout this website can be found in the materials & techniques section.
